WELCOME TO 1ST GRADE!
wE ARE GOING TO HAVE SO MUCH FUN LEARNING!
This year we will be adding and subtracting numbers, learning how to read, learning how to decode words with phonics, writing a full paragraph, learning how to find the main idea, using supporting details in a text, and that is just the beginning! With all that is going to be happening this year, it is important for us to work together.
I will work to keep in touch with you on a daily basis. I do this through the Daily Agendas and Parent Communication Folders. The agendas are where we will keep a daily correspondence about behavior, where weekly spelling words are written, and where daily homework will be written. The Parent Communication Folders have a KEEP side and a BRING BACK side. The papers on the KEEP side are usually newsletters and graded papers. The papers on the BRING BACK will need to be signed and returned. The folders are to be checked and cleaned out and the agendas signed and returned daily! This is very important!

First Grade has Changed!First grade has changed so much from when I went to school, and I graduated High School in 2006! I often hear from families, "I don't remember doing this in 1st grade!" This will most likely cross your mind a couple of times this year. IT IS OKAY!! I am here to help!

We are writers! In First Grade we begin as emergent writers and at the end the year we will be writing a five sentence paragraph complete with a topic sentence and supporting details. Families, I really need your support with your student's writing. Please make sure that you focus on the handwriting skills. I will tell them, " Write it nice, or do it twice."

We are a Family!I also want to stress how important your child is to me and my class. I absolutely love teaching and I want your child to succeed! I also want your child to know that they are valued and have unlimited potential. My goal is to help them reach their full potential.
With that being said, I tell my students to always be nice and be kind to others. We spend more time with our "class family" than we do with our home family some of the time. |
